The Director General of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (MAUS), Dr. Khan Moinuddin Al Mahmood Sohel, has emphasized improving the socio-economic status and opportunities of teachers to improve the quality of the country’s education system. He said that to attract talented young people to the teaching profession, it is essential to ensure better salaries, social status, and professional dignity for teachers.

In a recent interview, he said that educators and ordinary people alike believe that quality education cannot be ensured without proper evaluation of teachers. However, currently, the salaries and benefits of MPO-affiliated teachers and employees are much lower than reality.

He stated that one of the key election commitments of the current government is to develop skilled and talented teachers. To achieve this goal, there is no alternative to ensuring better opportunities for teachers.

The MAUS DG said, “If we truly want to ensure quality education, we need talented teachers. And to retain talented teachers, we must ensure respectable salaries, social dignity, and financial security for them.”

He also emphasized attracting the younger generation to the teaching profession. According to him, many people join teaching through competitive examinations, but they become disappointed when they face uncertainty regarding their social and financial status.

He further said, “A teacher should not be dependent on anyone; such an environment must be ensured. If a teacher can work with dignity, they will be more dedicated to students.”

He also highlighted government plans for teachers’ skill development, including training programs, exchange programs with foreign institutions, and integration with modern education systems.

Officials concerned with the education sector also emphasized structural balance in education. According to them, in some places the number of students is low compared to teachers, while in others there is a shortage of teachers. Eliminating this imbalance and properly determining the teacher-student ratio can ensure balanced development in the education system.

Stakeholders believe that if effective initiatives are implemented to increase teachers’ salaries, allowances, and social dignity, interest in the teaching profession will increase again, and positive changes will come in the country’s education system.
