Students at the University of Rajshahi (RU) are facing severe difficulties paying various residential hall fees. With the online system suspended, they are forced to stand in long bank queues for hours. The hall administration blames the ICT Center, while the ICT authorities have outright rejected the claim.

Sources from the university say that before semester exams, residential students must pay union fees, sports fees, library fees, internet fees, and other charges. First-year non-residential students also pay a one-time fee. Previously, all fees were deposited into a single bank account. Later, online payment was introduced via the ‘e-Result Automation’ software, but the Exam Control Office withdrew from this responsibility due to complications. When the hall administration regained responsibility, they instructed students to deposit fees into multiple bank accounts, increasing congestion and student hardship.

RU Central Students’ Union (RACSU) General Secretary Salahuddin Ammar expressed his frustration on social media, claiming the ICT Center’s inefficiency caused the suspension. The ICT Director, Professor Dr. Md. Shaiful Islam, denied responsibility, stating hall fee collection online does not fall under the ICT Center.

Meanwhile, the Hall Provost Council Chair and Mannujan Hall Provost Professor Dr. Asiyara Khatun explained that last year students could pay fees easily via mobile banking under the automation system, but this year the system was suspended following university administration’s decision, reportedly citing anti-corruption measures.

Students say they are suffering due to administrative conflicts. They fear greater hardship during exams if the online system is not reinstated soon.
