Robbery at expatriate’s house in broad daylight in Feni, housewife taken hostage at knifepoint

In broad daylight in Feni town, allegations have emerged of entering an expatriate's home, taking a housewife hostage at knifepoint, and looting cash and gold ornaments. Panic has spread in the residential area of the town following the incident.

On Wednesday (August 19), around 8:30 AM, this incident occurred on the second floor of Rehan Mansion, adjacent to the Mohipal fruit market in the town, according to the victim, Shahana Akhtar.

According to Shahana Akhtar, she was alone at home at the time of the incident. Her husband, Md. Nuruzzaman, lives in Saudi Arabia, and their only son, Samaun Rehan, studies in the ninth grade. Since her son was at school during the incident, she had no one with her at home.

Shahana stated that upon hearing the doorbell in the morning, as soon as she opened the door, two men forcibly entered the house. After that, she was threatened at knifepoint and her mouth was tied up. At one point, they choked her, held her hostage, and quickly fled with cash and gold ornaments kept in various places around the house.

The victim claims that among the looted assets were BDT 1,060,000 in cash and approximately 15 bhoris of gold ornaments.

Shahana Akhtar fell ill due to panic after the incident. Upon hearing the news, relatives came to take care of her. Hearing the news of the robbery at his wife's house, her husband Nuruzzaman has set off from Saudi Arabia to return to the country.

Meanwhile, after CCTV footage of the incident spread on social media on Wednesday evening, the matter became a topic of intense discussion across Feni town. The occurrence of such a loot inside a residential building during the day has also raised concerns among local residents regarding security.

Feni Model Police Station Inspector (Operations) Sajed Kamal informed that police visited the scene after receiving the news. However, as the victim was ill, it was not possible to collect detailed information from her immediately. He stated that legal action would be taken after speaking with her on Thursday once her health improves slightly.
