 PNN News Desk | Dhaka:

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has reported a 21% increase in revenue collection during July and August 2025, according to an official press release.

The release stated that total revenue collected in August amounted to BDT 27,174 crore, which is BDT 4,084 crore higher than BDT 23,089 crore collected in the same month last year. The combined revenue for the two months (July-August) reached BDT 54,423 crore, marking a 21% increase compared to BDT 45,005 crore collected during the same period in 2024.

From local VAT collection, the highest revenue in August came to BDT 11,085 crore, a 33.83% increase from BDT 8,283 crore collected in the same month last year. Revenue from income tax and travel tax reached BDT 8,442 crore, showing a 24.17% rise from BDT 6,798 crore in the previous year.

However, revenue from import and export sectors slightly decreased to BDT 7,647 crore in August, compared to BDT 8,007 crore last year. This negative growth has been attributed to changes in economic codes in the iBAS++ system, which will result in some revenue being deposited in September.

NBR stated that through efforts to expand the tax net, ensure tax compliance, and uncover tax evasion, they are working to further strengthen revenue growth. The board expressed optimism that taxpayers will comply with regulations, pay taxes on time, and proudly contribute to the country’s economic development.
