Retired military personnel demand recognition of their contributions in the July Certificate

On the occasion of the first anniversary of the July mass uprising, retired members of the armed forces have demanded recognition of their role and inclusion of their contributions in the ‘July Certificate.’

This demand was made at a program titled ‘Unity Rally and Procession of Retired Armed Forces Personnel and Student Movement’ organized by the National Unity and Solidarity Council on Tuesday at Rawa Convention Center in Mohakhali, Dhaka. After the rally, the procession started from Rawa, circled Jahangir Gate, and ended back at the Rawa Convention Center.

Speakers at the rally included retired military officers from various ranks.

Retired Sergeant Ahsan Hakim said, “We were also part of the mass uprising. Therefore, our names and contributions should be included in the July Certificate. In addition, government benefits for retired members should be increased.”

Retired Sergeant Abul Mansur said, “The July uprising is a bright chapter in history. Our contributions need to be recognized there.”

Retired Major Jamil D. Ahsan said, “After independence, the country’s democracy was endangered, and on August 5 it was restored. This is a historic day. We were there for the country in the past and remain so.”

Retired Colonel Mia Moshiuzzaman said, “We must stay alert about potential enemies of the country, but excessive demands on partnership should be avoided.”

Retired Colonel Md. Ahsanullah said, “Despite many limitations, the interim government is moving the country forward. Unity is needed to overcome the crisis.”

The event was hosted by retired Lieutenant Colonel Sharif Md. A. Husain.

Other speakers included retired Colonel Manish Dewan, Lieutenant Colonel Mosharraf Hossain, Major General Fazle Elahi Akbar, Lieutenant General Aminul Karim, and Brigadier General Saidur Rahman, among others.
