In the first 21 days of September this year, the country received remittances from overseas Bangladeshis totaling USD 20.31 billion, equivalent to BDT 24,778.20 crore (assuming 1 USD = BDT 122).

Arif Hossain Khan, a spokesperson for Bangladesh Bank, reported that on Sunday alone, expatriates sent BDT 1,561.60 crore. During the same period last year, remittances amounted to USD 16.34 billion, indicating a year-on-year increase of USD 3.97 billion, or 24.30%.

From July 1 to September 21 this year, total remittances amounted to USD 6.93 billion, compared to USD 5.772 billion during the same period last year. This reflects an increase of USD 1.148 billion in remittance inflows.

Bangladesh Bank noted that this consistent growth in remittances is increasing the supply of foreign currency and making a significant contribution to the country’s economy.
