Redwan Ahmed, Secretary General of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), has formally joined the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) after resigning from his post. The ceremony took place on Wednesday (24 December) afternoon at the BNP chairman’s political office in Gulshan, in the presence of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

BNP announced that Redwan Ahmed will contest the upcoming national parliamentary election from the Comilla-7 constituency.

In his speech, Redwan Ahmed stated that he agrees with BNP’s initiative for electoral understanding with allied parties. However, LDP chairman Oli Ahmed holds a different stance. Redwan mentioned that the majority of LDP’s permanent committee members and leaders across the country support his decision. He expressed hope that Oli Ahmed will eventually agree with BNP’s electoral understanding.

Redwan Ahmed emphasized his long-standing relationship with BNP and described this move as “returning home.” He has already submitted his resignation to the LDP chairman and hopes many LDP leaders will join BNP to actively participate in election campaigns.

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir welcomed Redwan Ahmed’s joining, stating that it will further strengthen BNP organizationally and referred to it as “a homecoming of a son to his home.”
