PayPal seeks banking license in the U.S.

Online payment service PayPal has applied for a banking license in the U.S. to operate as a bank, aiming to provide faster and easier loans to small and medium businesses.
PayPal submitted the application to the Utah Department of Financial Institutions and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC). If approved, the company will rely less on third parties, and customer deposits will be FDIC insured.
