Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) may reconsider participation in the upcoming World Cup if the International Cricket Council (ICC) fails to provide a satisfactory solution to complications related to Bangladesh. According to Pakistani media, if the situation deteriorates further, the possibility of Pakistan ultimately not participating in the World Cup is also being considered. As a result, the PCB has instructed its team management to prepare alternative plans.

PCB sources claim that no country should exert pressure or indirect threats on another country for hosting privileges. According to the board, all countries’ safety and interests must be given equal importance when participating in international tournaments.

Meanwhile, to resolve the venue-related issues in Bangladesh, ICC’s Integrity Unit General Manager Andrew Egrave arrived in Dhaka on Saturday (17 January). In the afternoon, he held a meeting with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). ICC’s Events and Corporate Communications General Manager Gaurav Saxena also joined online, as he could not attend in person due to visa issues.

During the meeting, Bangladesh’s position was discussed, but the BCB remained firm regarding the India tour decision. A significant portion of the discussion was about the possibility of changing group arrangements, particularly regarding a group swap involving Bangladesh and Ireland. After the meeting, the BCB announced that to simplify the matter, they are considering moving Bangladesh to another group while keeping logistic changes minimal.

On the other hand, an official from Cricket Ireland stated that they have been assured that the scheduled fixtures will remain unchanged. He said the Ireland team will play the group stage matches in Sri Lanka as originally planned.

Overall, uncertainty surrounding the ICC’s decision on the Bangladesh issue is increasing. Cricket analysts believe this situation could affect World Cup preparations and the plans of participating countries.
