According to the party, the foreign delegates congratulated Shafiqur Rahman on his election as opposition leader on behalf of their respective governments and expressed optimism that his leadership would positively contribute to Bangladesh’s democratic processes.
Delegates included India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Pakistan’s Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal Chowdhury, Bhutan’s Prime Minister Shering Tobgay, UK’s Indo-Pacific Minister Seema Malhotra, Nepal’s Foreign Minister Bala Nand Sharma, and Turkey’s Deputy Foreign Minister Baris Ekinci.
Jamaat representatives present included central Naib Amir and MP ATM Azharul Islam, Assistant Secretary General and opposition whip Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan, Central Executive Committee member and MP Saiful Alam Khan Milan, and foreign affairs advisor Professor Mahmudul Hasan.
Political analysts believe that such continuous meetings between the opposition leader and multiple foreign delegations carry an important diplomatic message.
