At least two people have been killed in Russian attacks on Kherson, Ukraine, including a 49-year-old woman who was crushed under rubble. A day earlier, six people were killed in Russian strikes across the country.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that Ukrainian forces are making progress in the northern Sumy region, while Russian troops in Donetsk and Kharkiv are facing significant losses.
Ukrainian forces claimed they have recaptured the village of Filia in the southeastern Dnipropetrovsk region. They also reported destroying a Russian ballistic missile and 164 drones of various types within a single day.
Additionally, Ukraine claimed responsibility for an attack on Russia’s Kirishi oil refinery in the Leningrad region, causing explosions and fires. Russian Governor Alexander Drozdenko said the fire was caused by falling drone debris and was quickly extinguished.
Two train lines were disrupted in Russia’s Leningrad region due to sabotage, with one driver dying en route to the hospital. In the Oryol region, explosions on a railway killed three members of the Russian National Guard. Ukraine has claimed responsibility for this explosion, while denying involvement in the Leningrad incidents.
The Russian Ministry of Defense reported intercepting 361 Ukrainian drones and four U.S.-made HIMARS missiles in the past 24 hours.
In Donetsk’s Russian-controlled city of Horlivka, five people were reportedly injured in a Ukrainian attack, according to local Russian-appointed officials.
Meanwhile, Russia’s election commission reported an “unprecedented cyberattack” on its digital infrastructure during regional governor elections.
On the international stage, former U.S. President Donald Trump reiterated his readiness to impose sanctions on Russia, urging Europe to take a firmer stance. Romania also summoned Moscow’s ambassador after Russian drones entered its airspace.
United Nations General Assembly President Annalena Baerbock emphasized the role of peacekeepers in maintaining a peace agreement, while former UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson called for sending foreign troops to Ukraine, stating that Europe must act more actively to protect the country.
