The National Board of Revenue (NBR) has extended the deadline for submitting income tax returns for the 2025–26 fiscal year by another month. In a special order issued on Thursday, NBR stated that individual taxpayers can submit returns without penalty until February 28, 2026.

Previously, the deadline had already been extended twice by one month each time. Generally, the last date for submitting income tax returns is November 30. Each year, NBR extends the deadline to accommodate taxpayers.

Currently, around 11.5 million TIN holders exist in the country, who are required to file returns if they have taxable income. Over 3.4 million taxpayers have already submitted their returns.

Online return submission process: All taxpayers must now file returns online. They must first register on the NBR website, then log in using a password to submit their return. No documents need to be uploaded, but records of information provided should be kept for future audits or reference.

Payment options include bank transfer, debit/credit card, bKash, Rocket, cash, or other mobile financial services. NBR hopes that the extended deadline will allow more taxpayers to file returns and avoid penalties.
