Bangladesh continues to maintain a strong position in the international denim or jeans garment export market. After achieving top position in major markets such as the European Union and the United States, its position is becoming even stronger, according to relevant sources.
Recent statistics show that Bangladesh exported around 2.6 billion US dollars worth of denim products to these two markets last year, which is a significant increase compared to the previous year.
Data from the Department of Textiles and Eurostat show that Bangladesh’s denim exports to the United States reached about 960 million dollars, which is 34 percent higher than the previous year. Bangladesh holds a 26 percent market share in the US, maintaining the top position.
In the European Union market, Bangladesh exported about 1.64 billion dollars worth of denim, showing a growth of around 21 percent. It also remains the top exporter in this market.
Countries such as Mexico, Vietnam, Pakistan, Turkey, and Cambodia follow Bangladesh in the global market. Mexico is the second largest exporter in the US market, while Pakistan is Bangladesh’s main competitor in Europe.
Industry sources say that in the last decade and a half, massive investment has been made in the denim sector. Where there were only a few factories before, there are now around 50 denim manufacturing mills in the country.
Lower production costs, modern technology, and direct communication with international buyers have increased Bangladesh’s competitiveness. Shifts in global trade patterns have also redirected orders to Bangladesh.
Analysts believe that with continued investment, quality improvement, and market expansion, Bangladesh’s position in denim exports will become even stronger in the future.
