The LPG Traders’ Cooperative Association announced an indefinite halt to the sale of LPG cylinders across the country, demanding price revision and an end to harassment of dealers. From Thursday morning (January 8), the decision was in effect nationwide, including Dhaka.

The traders’ association stated that until their demands are met, supply and sale of LPG cylinders would remain completely stopped. This sudden decision caused severe disruption for ordinary consumers. In many areas, cylinders were unavailable; where available, they were being sold at inflated prices.

On Wednesday night (January 7), all distributors and retailers were instructed to halt LPG sales. In addition, gas extraction from all company LPG plants was also stopped.

Earlier that day, business leaders held a press conference at the National Press Club, demanding two main things: a price adjustment for LPG cylinders by the Bangladesh Energy Regulatory Commission (BERC) and an end to administrative harassment and fines on dealers.

The association stated that if their demands are not met within 24 hours, they will continue the indefinite supply halt, which has now started. Selim Khan, President of the LPG Traders’ Cooperative Association, said, “From Thursday morning, LPG cylinder sales are completely stopped nationwide. We have a meeting with BERC this afternoon. If our demands are met, supply will resume; otherwise, the program will continue.”
