Ashraful Haque was a resident of Gopalpur Noyapara village, Shyampur Union, Badarganj Upazila, Rangpur. He used to buy raw materials from Hili and supply them to various districts including Dhaka and Chattogram. His father’s name is Md. A. Rashid.
Upon reaching the scene, police first removed piles of rice from the drums and found the body parts wrapped in black plastic. By 7 PM, the CID Crime Scene Unit collected fingerprints and confirmed the identity of the deceased. The cause and method of the murder are still unclear, but police suspect that Ashraful was killed a few days earlier. Investigators are reviewing CCTV footage to determine who placed the body in the drums in a busy area.
According to DC Masud Alam, Deputy Police Commissioner of Ramna, two individuals were seen bringing the drums in a van between 2 PM and 2:30 PM on Thursday. Family sources stated that three days earlier, Ashraful left his sick father in the hospital and came to Dhaka with his Malaysia-returned friend Jorej Mia. His wife, Laki Begum, often spoke to Jorej when trying to contact her husband. Ashraful’s last conversation with his wife was around 5 PM on Wednesday.
Laki Begum and her brother filed a GD report at Badarganj Police Station after failing to contact Ashraful. Upon confirming that the body found in Dhaka belonged to Ashraful, Laki Begum fell seriously ill. His brother-in-law, Abdul Majid, claimed from the beginning that the disappearance was suspicious and alleged that Jorej Mia knows “a lot about the incident.” He demanded swift arrest and justice for the murderers.
OC AKM Atikur Rahman of Badarganj Police Station said detailed information from the victim’s family has been sent to Ramna Police Station. Officers from both stations are jointly investigating the case. Despite tight security in the capital, this planned murder and body disposal have caused public concern. Police stated that CCTV footage, call records, and questioning of relevant individuals will help uncover the truth.
