PNN Staff Report
Bangladesh left-arm pacer Mustafizur Rahman has been removed from the IPL squad following a directive from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) officially announced Mustafizur’s release following the board’s instruction.
In a statement on Saturday (January 3), KKR confirmed that the decision was implemented according to BCCI’s instructions before the next phase of the IPL. The board permitted KKR to include a replacement player after Mustafizur’s release.
Mustafizur was bought by KKR for 9.2 crore INR in the IPL auction. Recently, several extremist Hindu organizations in India launched a campaign demanding that Mustafizur not play in the IPL, citing alleged persecution of the Hindu minority in Bangladesh. This led the BCCI to direct KKR to take action.
ANI news agency quoted BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia stating that due to unrest in various parts of the country, KKR was instructed to release a player. KKR may recruit any replacement player as permitted by the board.
