In Mirsharai, Chattogram, a fast-moving lorry crashed into the rear of a stationary truck on the Dhaka-Chattogram highway’s Dhaka-bound lane. The accident claimed the life of the lorry driver’s assistant, Md. Sabbir Hossain (20). He was the son of Ali Abbas from the Miyazer Bari area of North Halishahar, Chattogram city. The lorry driver, Md. Juel (28), was injured in the crash.

The accident occurred early Wednesday morning near the head of Sufia Road in the Sadar Union of Mirsharai. According to local sources, the truck was parked as the driver and his assistant were repairing a damaged wheel. At that moment, a speeding lorry hit the truck from behind, causing the truck to veer off the road and fall onto a nearby shop. Fortunately, the shop was closed, so no one inside was harmed.

The impact crushed the front part of the lorry, and the assistant got trapped, resulting in fatal injuries. The injured driver was immediately taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital by locals.

Ahmad Hossain, the acting officer of Mirsharai Fire Service, said that it took nearly four hours to recover the body using a large crane. The recovered body was handed over to the highway police.

Borhan Uddin, sub-inspector of Zoraganj Highway Police Station, said that family members of the deceased have completed legal formalities at the police station. Both vehicles involved in the accident have been seized.

Local administration and law enforcement agencies are investigating the cause of the accident.
