During the final leg of his India tour, Argentine World Cup-winning football star Lionel Messi spent an emotional and memorable time in Delhi. After receiving love and respect from fans at Arun Jaitley Stadium, he left India on Monday (15 December) night.
Messi entered the stadium in the afternoon, toured the field, and responded to fans’ greetings. The stands were filled with blue-and-white jerseys and a single slogan: “Messi, Messi.” He later enjoyed a celebrity match and tossed balls to spectators along with teammates Luis Suarez and Rodrigo De Paul. Messi also interacted with Minerva Academy footballers and spent time playing with children.
During the event, Messi received a special gift from ICC chief Jay Shah, including a bat and jersey signed by the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team, as well as an invitation to the opening match of the World Cup. Messi received jersey number 10, Suarez 9, and De Paul 7.
After the event, Messi expressed gratitude to the fans, saying the love and support shown by the people of India was an incredible experience for him. He promised to return to India for matches or other reasons whenever possible.
Thus concluded the emotional farewell of one of world football’s greatest stars from India.
