In the midst of a busy season, Kylian Mbappé has played in almost every match. Across all competitions, Real Madrid has played 25 matches so far this season, and Mbappé has only missed one of them. The continuous pressure of playing match after match has finally taken a toll on the French star.
Real Madrid was set to resume their battle at the top of La Liga with a match against Real Betis on January 4. However, the team suffered a major setback before the match. Mbappé will not be available for this game due to a knee injury, as reported by international media on Wednesday (December 31).
In a statement, Real Madrid announced that the club’s medical team examined Mbappé and found a sprain in his left knee. However, the club has not officially stated how long he will be sidelined.
According to sources close to Mbappé, he may be out for at least three weeks, a timeline also reported by French media. This is not reassuring news for Real Madrid supporters at the start of the new year.
Mbappé is Real Madrid’s top scorer this season, with 29 goals across all competitions. He is also the top scorer in La Liga so far. A significant portion of the team’s goals has come from his contributions, making his absence a major challenge for the team.
Due to the injury, Mbappé is expected to miss not only the La Liga match against Real Betis but also the Spanish Super Cup matches scheduled from January 7 to 11. After that, his participation in the La Liga match against Levante and the Champions League match against Monaco is also uncertain.
Real Madrid has not specified how the injury occurred. However, French media reports suggest that the continuous strain of playing match after match gradually aggravated his knee, ultimately leading to the injury.
Mbappé had previously delivered outstanding individual performances, scoring 59 goals in a year and nearly matching a record set by club legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Since joining Real Madrid from PSG, he has scored 73 goals in 83 matches. However, analysts warn that this injury could significantly affect Real Madrid’s title aspirations during the crucial stages of the season.
