In Monohorganj Upazila of Comilla, a mason named Farhad Hossain (19) was killed by a colleague following a dispute over a fare of just 40 Taka. The incident occurred on Monday (March 1) evening in the Lakkhanpur Bazar area of the upazila. Farhad, the deceased, was the son of Mizan Mia from Lakkhanpur village.

The accused, Mahfuz Alam (15), is the son of Robiul Islam from Saikchail village. After the incident, he tried to flee but was arrested by police at Saikchail Bazar in Biplasar Union.

According to police and local sources, after finishing work that day, Farhad, Mahfuz, and two other colleagues were returning to Lakkhanpur Bazar by auto-rickshaw. When Mahfuz attempted to leave without paying the fare, Farhad questioned him about it. An argument ensued, during which Mahfuz allegedly stabbed Farhad in the chest with a rod-like object.

Seriously injured, Farhad was rescued by locals and first taken to a pharmacy, then to Comilla Medical College Hospital, where he succumbed on the way.

Following the incident, tensions rose in the area, prompting the army and police to quickly arrive and bring the situation under control.

Biplap Chandra De, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Monohorganj Police Station, said Farhad’s body has been sent to Comilla Medical College Hospital morgue for autopsy. Farhad’s father, Md. Mizan, filed a murder case at the police station. So far, three people, including the accused Mahfuz Alam, have been arrested.
