Incidents of violence continue in different parts of the country centering on post-election tension and conflicts. In Pirojpur and Tungipara, three BNP leaders and activists were hacked and injured. Meanwhile, clashes, vandalism, and arson occurred in Nawabganj of Dhaka and Sreepur of Magura due to internal party conflicts. At least 15 people have reportedly been injured in these incidents.
Around 11:30 pm on Sunday, in the bus stand adjacent area of the Pirojpur-Paderhat road, former convener of Pirojpur Sadar Upazila BNP and former UP Chairman Mohiuddin Mallik Nasir, along with his nephew and General Secretary of Shankarpasha Union BNP Riaz Uddin Mallik Nipu, were injured in an attack by miscreants.
According to the injured individuals, while returning home on a motorcycle, a group of people arriving on 8 to 10 motorcycles blocked their path and attacked them with sharp weapons. Locals later rescued them and admitted them to the hospital.
In Tungipara of Gopalganj, a BNP worker was allegedly hacked and injured by rivals following an argument over voting. The incident occurred Sunday afternoon in the Sardarpara area of the upazila. BNP worker Delwar Sheikh, his wife Amena Begum, and nephew Kawsar Sheikh were among five injured. Three of them are currently receiving treatment at the upazila health complex.
The Officer-in-Charge of Tungipara Police Station stated that the scene has been inspected and necessary legal action will be taken upon receiving a written complaint.
In Chakdaha village of Sreepur upazila in Magura, clashes broke out between two BNP factions over dominance. At least 10 people were injured. Allegations of vandalism and looting of nearly 35 houses have also been reported.
Local sources said long-standing disputes led the two groups to organize separate gatherings and processions, escalating tensions that eventually turned into clashes. Under the cover of night, both sides reportedly attacked and vandalized each other’s homes. Additional police have been deployed to control the situation, and several individuals have been detained, police said.
In Churain area of Nawabganj, Dhaka, at least five people were injured in clashes between two BNP factions. The conflict began Sunday afternoon during a meeting at the Union Parishad, following a verbal altercation. Residents reported that three motorcycles were set on fire and several rounds of blank gunshots were heard. The Officer-in-Charge of Nawabganj Police Station stated that both sides have filed cases and legal action will be taken after investigation.
Post-election disputes and internal party conflicts have created tension in various districts. Law enforcement agencies are working to maintain control of the situation, according to officials.
