In Komolnagar Upazila of Laxmipur, a clash broke out between two parties over the attempt to occupy land and construct a house, leaving at least five people, including a woman, injured. Two of the injured are reported to be in critical condition.
The incident occurred early Monday morning (February 9) at the house of Abdur Rahim Molla in Boalia area, Ward No. 1 of Patarihat Union. According to sources, Abdur Rahim Molla had agreed to purchase 10 percent of the land from Anowara Begum, wife of Nurul Islam. A down payment of three lakh taka was given against a total agreed price of five lakh taka, with a stamp to formalize the agreement. Later, during the registration of the deed, it was discovered that Anowara Begum’s son Raju had secretly attempted to sell the same land to another individual, Mosleuddin.
Both parties approached the Komolnagar Sub-Registry Office, where officials advised them to resolve the issue amicably. However, without any compromise, early Monday morning, Mosleuddin along with his father Nurul Islam, a few associates, and hired men began constructing a house on the disputed land, according to allegations.
When Abdur Rahim and his family tried to stop them, the opponents allegedly attacked them with domestic weapons and sticks. Abdur Rahim and his cousin Nobiur Hossain were hit on the head with iron rods, sustaining serious injuries. Others injured included Kabir Hossain, Nasir, and Fatema Begum.
Abdur Rahim stated that multiple stitches were required for his head injuries, and his family has been living in extreme insecurity since the incident. He also mentioned that they are preparing to file cases against Nurul Islam, his son Rubel, Raju, Mannan, and Akbar.
Attempts to contact Mosleuddin were unsuccessful as his mobile phone was switched off. Komolnagar police station’s Officer-in-Charge (OC) Faridul Alam said they are aware of the incident, and no written complaint has been submitted yet. Upon receipt of complaints, legal action will be taken following investigation.
