Ruhul Kabir Rizvi, senior joint secretary of BNP, said that BNP’s late chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia stood by the people until her death. She taught the nation how to resist fascist dictatorship and fight to protect democracy.
On Saturday (January 3) at 11 am, while visiting Khaleda Zia’s grave at Dhaka’s Zia Udyan, Rizvi spoke to journalists about her contributions.
He said that Begum Khaleda Zia was not only a political leader of a party but awakened the entire nation. She demonstrated through her life how to remain firm in the face of tyranny and to fight alongside the people.
Rizvi alleged that during her imprisonment on false charges, Khaleda Zia was denied proper medical care. He mentioned that she walked when taken to prison but had to be brought out in a wheelchair, indicating the inhumane treatment she endured. There were even suspicions about her food, he claimed.
Rizvi added that she was consistently denied regular and quality medical treatment while in prison, which largely contributed to the deterioration of her health.
The visit to the grave was attended by leaders and activists of the BNP Nationalist Women’s Party. Rizvi mentioned that Begum Khaleda Zia had personally built the party. Following her ideals and political philosophy, nationalist forces will be able to safeguard the country’s independence and sovereignty. Present were the party’s president Afroza Abbas, general secretary Sultana Ahmed, and leaders from various levels.
