Winslet said, “I was told I was too fat! Why were people so cruel? I wasn’t fat at all. I was young, my body was changing, I was uncertain about myself, and extremely fearful, and they became even harsher. This was pure bullying, truly extreme harassment.”
She added, “It’s alarming when someone’s self-esteem depends entirely on their appearance. Sometimes I see actresses dressed in all kinds of ways on red carpets, yet many are taking weight-loss drugs. Some want to stay themselves; others are desperate to change. Neglecting one’s health is frightening.”
According to Winslet, this trend of plastic surgery is not limited to actresses; ordinary women are also saving money for Botox or lip fillers. She added, “I love it most when my age shows. Many beautiful women I know look amazing even over 70. But what pains me most is that young women don’t truly understand what beauty means.”
Winslet has previously fought against body shaming. After the success of Titanic, she spoke publicly about the abuse she faced regarding her body, describing it as extremely harsh and traumatic, and protested to the press at the time.
Her comments have reignited debate about societal pressure on young people and overemphasis on physical appearance.
