Kaliganj: Chef killed by friend’s stabbing over trivial matter

In Kaliganj Upazila of Gazipur, a chef named Sumon Kosta (45) was killed by a friend’s knife attack. The tragic incident occurred on Tuesday (23 December) afternoon in the Rangamati area of Tumulia Union.

The deceased, Sumon Kosta, was a resident of the area and the son of the late Sukontha Kosta. He had been earning his livelihood as a chef for many years. The police identified Sumon’s friend Nandan D. Kosta (46), son of Gilbert D. Kosta from the same area, as the suspect involved in the incident.

According to police and local sources, around noon on Tuesday, Sumon Kosta went to Nandan D. Kosta’s house. The two were drinking together when a minor dispute escalated into a confrontation. In a fit of anger, Nandan D. Kosta stabbed Sumon multiple times in the chest, neck, and face, causing his death on the spot.

After the murder, the accused allegedly disposed of Sumon’s body in a pond near his house, covering it with water hyacinth before fleeing. Later, around 4 PM, locals saw a floating body in the pond and informed the police. The police recovered the body at night and sent it for post-mortem. The preliminary investigation found multiple stab wounds on the deceased’s body.

OC of Kaliganj Police Station, Md. Zakir Hossain, said the case is being investigated seriously. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect, and legal proceedings are ongoing.
