At the San Sebastián Film Festival, Oscar-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence has taken a stand in support of Palestine. She described the current situation in Gaza as “nothing less than genocide.”
At a press conference held at the festival on Friday, Lawrence said, “I am terrified. What is happening is absolutely unacceptable. This is outright genocide. I am worried for my children, for the children of all of us.” She also expressed concern about the political situation in the United States, noting that the current generation is growing up in a reality marked by falsehoods and a lack of empathy from leaders.
Lawrence emphasized that artists should not be burdened with the responsibility of solving the world’s complex political issues. According to her, freedom of expression is currently under threat, and film festivals play a particularly important role in this context.
Her new film, ‘Die My Love’, premiered at the festival today. Lawrence plays the character Grace, a new mother navigating mental instability and marital tensions. The film has already received acclaim and has been acquired by the OTT platform MUBI for $24 million.
