Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami expressed deep concern over the bail granted to Awami League leaders arrested in July uprising-related murder cases and the reopening of party offices despite restrictions on political activities. The party strongly condemned and protested these developments.
In a statement on Friday, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar alleged that individuals involved in the indiscriminate attacks and killings of students and the public during the July–August movement are being gradually granted bail. Meanwhile, the reopening of Awami League offices despite restrictions is alarming, he said.
He claimed these offices could create instability again. The statement noted that such actions pose a threat to the country’s democratic environment. The Jamaat urged the completion of swift trials to punish the guilty and demanded investigation and necessary measures for offices reopened; otherwise, they warned of strict actions involving students and the public.
No immediate response was received from the Awami League regarding the matter. Observers say that in the current political climate, such statements and counter-statements could further escalate tensions.
