Amid rising tensions in the Middle East, Iran’s latest drone and missile attacks have increased concern in the Gulf region. In the most recent attack, an assault on a residential building in Manama, Bahrain’s capital, killed one person and injured at least eight.
According to the Ministry of Interior, the deceased was a 29-year-old woman. On Monday, a drone attack on Sitra Island in the southern part of the capital also injured several people.
Bahrain’s Defense Force stated that during the recent attacks, their air defense system shot down at least 102 missiles and 173 drones fired from Iran, describing the events as “Iranian aggression.”
The attacks affected not only Bahrain. In the United Arab Emirates, the city of Dubai issued missile warnings on Tuesday morning. At the same time, Saudi Arabia reported intercepting two drones in its eastern skies. Meanwhile, Kuwait’s National Guard reported shooting down six drones approaching the north and south of the country.
Analysts note that many of the attacks target oil facilities. Qatar also reported intercepting several missiles and drones.
The Iranian attacks temporarily disrupted BAPCO’s oil supply agreements in Bahrain. Simultaneously, drone attacks occurred at Saudi Arabia’s Shaybah Oil Field, producing about 1 million barrels of oil daily.
The Middle East conflict is impacting international oil markets. The global benchmark Brent Crude briefly reached nearly $120 per barrel. Although slightly lower now, prices remain much higher than before the war started.
Iran has also reportedly blocked shipping through the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which handles about 20% of global oil transportation.
In response, U.S. President Donald Trump warned that if Iran attempts to stop oil supply through Hormuz, the U.S. will take stricter military action. Iran’s IRGC stated that they will decide when the war ends. Analysts suggest the conflict is expanding in scale, potentially affecting regional security and global oil markets significantly.
