An investigation committee has been formed under the Islamic Arabic University following allegations of financial irregularities, administrative misconduct, and abuse of authority against Mohammad Abdul Aziz Majumder, principal of Haiderganj Taheria R.M. Kamil Madrasa in Lakshmipur.
Teachers and employees of the madrasa alleged that the institution has been operated in violation of government regulations for a long time. They also claimed that those who protested against irregularities faced harassment and disciplinary actions.
However, Principal Abdul Aziz Majumder denied the allegations, claiming that false accusations were made with the intention of humiliating and harassing him.
According to institutional documents and sources, the principal has allegedly been running the madrasa for nearly 11 years without regular audits. After the mass uprising in 2024, teachers and students protested against alleged authoritarian practices and later submitted a written complaint to the Islamic Arabic University.
Teachers claimed that although the principal remained absent from the institution for a long period after the protests, he later resumed his duties and continued his previous activities.
They alleged that the university had sent multiple letters seeking action against him, but the governing body failed to take effective measures.
Teachers further claimed that an internal audit report published in January 2025 mentioned recoverable audit objections amounting to Tk 1.29 crore against the principal.
The allegations reportedly include voucher manipulation, irregularities in tax payments, excessive expenditure in various sectors, and lack of financial transparency. There are also allegations that more than Tk 48 lakh was withdrawn through irregular voucher practices.
Teachers claimed that expenses were shown for transportation without travel, the same vouchers were used multiple times, and excessive payments were made under housing allowance, mobile bills, and internet expenses.
They also alleged irregularities involving student hostel bank accounts, examination form fees, and student tuition collection.
Teachers said an internal audit committee was formed in September 2024 following instructions from the governing body, but the report was never made public. They further claimed that another audit conducted by an external firm was also not disclosed.
However, Governing Body President Mawlana Syed Mohammad Anwar Hossain Taher Jabiri Al Madani said the investigation report had been received and necessary action would be taken after the final government audit report.
He said, “If the allegations are proven through government investigation, action will be taken according to the rules. No wrongdoing will be tolerated.”
Rejecting the allegations, Principal Mohammad Abdul Aziz Majumder said the audit report published against him was inaccurate and prepared with ulterior motives.
He claimed he had not received the audit report officially and alleged that some individuals prepared documents independently after taking institutional papers during the protest period.
Islamic Arabic University Vice-Chancellor Professor Mohammad Abu Jafar Khan said complaints against madrasa principals are handled according to regulations.
He said an investigation committee is formed whenever allegations arise, and if accusations are proven, recommendations are made for further action.
Meanwhile, Raipur Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mehedi Hasan Kawsar said necessary steps would be taken after receiving an official complaint.
The allegations against the principal are currently under investigation, and authorities will decide on further action after completion of the inquiry.
