Shafiqul Alam stated in his remarks that Bangladeshi journalism was largely government-controlled in the past. The government now aims to create a free environment for the media, moving away from this old trend.

He also mentioned that the new law replacing the recently repealed Cyber Security Act will not interfere with press freedom. Shafiqul Alam emphasized that there will be alternative remedies for misinformation, and the government wants to move away from a culture of threats or disappearances. This reflects the government's commitment to transparency and accountability.

However, Shafiqul Alam also stressed the responsibility of the media. He clearly stated, "Press freedom does not guarantee the spread of misinformation." In his opinion, those who disseminate false news should not be given any platform.
