A notice signed by Md. Sharifunnessa, Deputy Secretary of the Finance Division of the Ministry of Finance, states that, considering the government’s current budget constraints, the house rent allowance for MPO-registered teachers and staff in private institutions will be increased in two phases:
First phase: From 1 November 2025, 7.5% of the basic salary (minimum 2,000 BDT)
Second phase: From 1 July 2026, an additional 7.5%, totaling 15% (minimum 2,000 BDT)
Several conditions have been set to implement the increase, including:
Adjusting with additional benefits mentioned in the next pay scale.
Appointments of MPO-registered teachers and staff must comply with the private education institution staffing structure and MPO guidelines 2018/2021.
No arrears will remain regarding house rent allowance.
All financial regulations must be strictly followed when disbursing the allowance.
If any irregularities are detected in the future, the authority responsible for payment will be held accountable.
Four copies of the government order issued by the Ministry of Administration must be sent to the Finance Division.
Earlier, from 12 October, teachers had organized marches and sit-ins at the National Press Club, Central Shaheed Minar, and Secretariat, including demonstrations at Shahbagh Crossing. Their three main demands were:
House rent allowance at 20% of basic salary
Medical allowance increased from 500 BDT to 1,500 BDT
Festival allowance increased from 50% to 75% of basic salary
Teacher leaders said that, as the government has approved a two-phase 15% increase in house rent, they have temporarily suspended their programs after internal discussions and evaluations.
