The process of removing Professor SM Shahidul Islam, Director of the Inspection and Audit Directorate (DIA) under the Ministry of Education, is underway after allegations of bribery during an inspection at Monipur School and College in Dhaka.

Sources said administrative action is being prepared following the allegations.

Responding to journalists, Education and Primary and Mass Education Adviser ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon indicated that action will be taken soon against the accused official. He said instructions have been given to send a letter to the secretary regarding the matter.

According to ministry sources, a report published in a national newspaper recently alleged bribery during an inspection at Monipur School and College, prompting renewed investigation and administrative steps.

The report also claimed that a team from the DIA was investigating irregularities during the previous Awami League government period, but the investigation report was not published even after more than six months.

It further alleged that around 20 million taka was taken in bribes during audit activities.

The ministry said that legal and administrative action will be taken after verifying the allegations and that the investigation will be conducted transparently.
