Professor Dr. Mohammad Almozaddehdee Alfechani from the Department of Botany has been appointed as the new Pro-Vice Chancellor (Administration) of the University of Dhaka.
The appointment was issued through a notification from the Ministry of Education on Thursday (May 7).
The notification states that, with the approval of the President and Chancellor of the university, he has been appointed under the relevant provisions of the Dhaka University Order, 1973. His tenure will be four years from the date of joining.
According to the terms, he will receive salary and benefits equivalent to his current position along with other allowances as per rules. He must remain within the university campus full-time and perform duties assigned by the Vice-Chancellor. The President may cancel the appointment at any time if necessary.
Professor Alfechani has long been involved in teaching and research in the Department of Botany at Dhaka University. He completed both his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with first-class first position from the same department and later obtained a PhD.
In recognition of his research contributions, he has been selected as an Associate Fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences and a Capstone Fellow of the National Defence College. He also serves as the chief editor of an international research journal.
He has authored more than 100 research papers and six international books. He has also supervised multiple PhD and MSc theses.
His research includes discovering new species and innovative work in environmental science and biotechnology, including identification of algae and plant species and development of water purification and biosensor technologies.
He has also been actively involved in administrative and organizational roles, contributing to academic and social activities through various university-related institutions.
