Staff Reporter | PNN:
Although India has imposed new conditions on rice exports, there has been no impact on the rice market in Bangladesh. Officials from the Department of Food stated that the country has sufficient rice stock and that international rice prices have also declined.

On September 24, India’s APEDA announced that registration is mandatory for exporting all rice except Basmati. However, Bangladesh primarily imports non-Basmati rice, and importers have already completed the necessary registration.

According to the Department of Food, the import target for the current fiscal year is 950,000 tons, including 97,000 metric tons of parboiled rice. So far, approval has been granted to import 50,000 metric tons of rice from India, and another 50,000 metric tons will be opened for tender on the 15th of this month.

Rice prices in the domestic market have also remained stable. In various markets in Dhaka, coarse rice is selling at 60–65 Taka per kilogram and fine rice at 75–80 Taka. According to the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, prices are largely stable compared to previous levels.
