Imam Arrested in Gopalganj Over Alleged Rape of Madrasa Student

In Muksudpur, Gopalganj, the director of Ayesha Siddika Women’s Madrasa and local mosque imam, Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan Shikdar (51), has been accused of raping a fifth-grade female student. Eight days after the incident, the 14-year-old victim, Rupa Akter, committed suicide. The local community immediately arrested the accused and handed him over to the police.

The incident occurred on Thursday, December 4, in the victim’s home in Bamondanga village, Gohala Union. Rupa Akter, a student of the fifth grade at Ayesha Siddika Women’s Hafizia Madrasa, reportedly hanged herself with a scarf.

The victim’s mother, Baby Begum, expressed deep sorrow and anger, stating, “After school, my daughter was called to a room and raped. We initially kept it secret out of fear for her dignity, but she could not bear this horrendous act and took her life after eight days. I want the rapist to face the death penalty.”

Muksudpur Police Investigation Officer Sheetal Chandra Pal confirmed that Mohammad Mahmudul Hasan Shikdar has been arrested. The victim’s body has been sent to Gopalganj morgue for autopsy, and the final report will determine the precise circumstances of the death.
