The Health Minister Sardar Md. Sakhawat Hossain has said that the measles infection situation in the country is gradually coming under control. He stated that those who have recently received the measles vaccine will need at least four weeks to develop immunity in their bodies. After that, the situation is expected to return to normal.

He made these comments while speaking to journalists after inspecting Barishal Sadar Hospital on Monday morning. During the visit, he toured various departments of the hospital and inquired about the quality of patient services.

The Health Minister said that although routine measles vaccination programs should be strengthened every few years, there had been a gap in continuity in recent years. As a result, infections increased in different areas. He said that when the current government took office, vaccine stock was limited. However, quick initiatives were taken to procure new vaccines and expand supply across the country.

He further said that in many areas, the number of new infections has already started decreasing, which is a positive sign. However, everyone must remain cautious and ensure timely vaccination of children.

During the hospital visit, the minister first went to the ticket counter. There he found a responsible staff member absent and immediately ordered his temporary suspension. Later, he checked the attendance records of doctors and spoke with patients to learn about various aspects of healthcare services.

At that time, he instructed the hospital authorities to further improve service quality, ensure humane behavior with patients, and avoid negligence in duty.
