Staff Report: PNN
To ensure smooth supply and affordable prices of dates for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, the government has reduced import duties. Considering increased demand and the sentiment of devout Muslims, customs duty on date imports has been lowered from 25% to 15%. The notification, issued on 23 December 2025, is effective until 31 March 2026.

Additionally, advance income tax on all fruit imports, including dates, has been reduced from 10% to 5%. Last year’s 50% tax rebate on advance income tax will continue this year.

The National Board of Revenue (NBR) expects this reduction in tariffs and taxes to increase date imports and ensure sufficient market supply. Consequently, retail prices of dates are expected to remain stable and affordable, benefiting both consumers and importers.
