Economic pressure increasing, restoring confidence biggest challenge: Finance Minister

Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the country’s overall economy is currently under pressure.

He highlighted slowing growth, rising inflation, and pressure on foreign reserves.

Speaking in Parliament under Rule 300, he said GDP growth has declined compared to previous years.

He also warned of unemployment due to “jobless growth.”

He expressed concern over rising non-performing loans in the banking sector.

He said budget deficits and rising interest payments are creating additional pressure.

He stressed reforms, transparency, and improved governance.

He said the government aims to build a trillion-dollar economy by 2034.

He also warned about risks from global fuel price volatility.
