Female Student Harassed on Train in Comilla, Five Arrested

After the Durga Puja holidays, a female student of Comilla University was reportedly harassed and sexually assaulted on a train. The incident took place on Sunday (October 5) on the Intercity Pahartika Express. Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the case.

The victim student filed a written complaint at Laksam Railway Police Station in Comilla. Her husband and two fellow university students were named as witnesses in the complaint.

The arrested individuals are Tanvir Hossain Nazim, Fahim Hasan Onik, Tahmani Ahmed, Md. Naeem Uddin, and Md. Fahim Hossain. Although several other names were mentioned in the complaint, their identities have not been confirmed.

According to the complaint, when the train reached Montola station, some young men began making obscene comments and gestures toward the student. When she protested, they verbally abused and threatened her. Later, at Shasnagacha railway station, Tanvir Hossain Nazim, with the help of others, attempted to sexually harass the victim.

OC Mohinul Islam of Comilla Kotwali Model Police Station said that, with the cooperation of the university students, five people have been arrested. Since the incident occurred on a train, the case has been referred to Laksam Railway Police Station.

Officer-in-Charge Md. Josim Uddin of Laksam Railway Police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and legal action will be taken based on the statements of witnesses and accused individuals.
