Father Shoots and Kills Daughter Over Tennis Career Amid Social Ridicule in Gurugram

A tragic incident in Gurugram, Delhi NCR, has shocked India after a father fatally shot his daughter over her tennis career and participation in a music video. The victim, 25-year-old Radhika Yadav, was a national-level tennis player and ran a tennis academy in Sushant Lok Phase 2, Gurugram. The accused, her father Deepak Yadav (57), reportedly killed her after feeling “dishonored” by societal remarks and repeated disagreements over her lifestyle choices.

According to the police, the incident occurred around 10 a.m. on Friday when Deepak fired five bullets at Radhika at their residence. Three of the bullets struck her, and despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, doctors declared her dead on arrival. Police recovered a .32-bore revolver from the scene and took Deepak Yadav into custody. During initial questioning, he admitted to the crime.

Deepak confessed that he had been pressuring his daughter to shut down her academy, citing mockery and criticism from villagers in their native village, Wazirabad. He claimed that such remarks were an insult to his personal honor. The tension between father and daughter escalated over time, ultimately culminating in the murder.

Investigators also revealed that Radhika’s appearance in a music video titled Karwaan, released a year ago, further infuriated her father. The video featured Radhika alongside singer Inam, which Deepak found unacceptable. He had previously instructed Radhika to remove the video from social media, but she refused.

The murder came to light after Deepak's younger brother, who lived on a different floor of the same building, heard gunshots and rushed upstairs. He found Radhika lying in the kitchen, shot and bleeding, while the revolver was discovered in the drawing room. He immediately filed a complaint with the police.

Gurugram Police officials stated that the case reflects deeper societal issues involving honor, mental health, and gender expectations. “The entire incident is under thorough investigation. Appropriate legal action will be taken against the accused,” said a police spokesperson.
