Most educational institutions in the country will begin closure from Sunday due to Eid-ul-Azha and the summer vacation. However, there was some confusion regarding the schedule for government primary schools. Finally, the Directorate of Primary Education has clarified in a new instruction that primary schools will remain open on Saturday as well.

Although most schools remain closed due to the weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday, a separate decision was needed for primary schools. Due to academic losses during Ramadan holidays, several Saturdays had previously been declared working days to compensate for missed classes. Accordingly, schools were expected to remain open on May 23 (Saturday).

Meanwhile, confusion arose among teachers and guardians because instructions regarding mid-day meal programs mentioned stopping food distribution from May 22. After day-long discussions, the matter was sent to the Ministry of Primary and Mass Education.

Later, the Directorate of Primary Education issued an order stating that according to the latest notification from the Ministry of Public Administration, all government, semi-government, autonomous, and private offices will remain closed from May 25 to May 31 for Eid-ul-Azha. However, offices will remain open on May 23 and 24 for necessary work.

Officials of the Directorate said this means schools will remain open on Saturday, and regular classes and activities will continue that day.

Education stakeholders say the decision was made to compensate for academic losses due to Ramadan holidays and to complete scheduled educational activities.
