Professor Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed, the government’s economic adviser, has said that Bangladesh’s economy is gradually returning to stability. He made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at the “Nagad–DRU Best Reporting Award 2025” ceremony held on Sunday at the International Mother Language Institute Auditorium.

The economic adviser stated, “The notion that the economy is completely ruined is incorrect. After the difficult period in August, we are now in a much better position. Various government measures are helping to get the economic wheel moving again.” He noted that positive changes are visible in several key indicators, including reserves, exports, and revenue flows.

Although some internal challenges remain, Dr. Salehuddin said international confidence in Bangladesh is increasing. He claimed that various global agencies and development partners are recognizing the country’s recent progress.

He urged caution and prudence in future plans, stating, “Some mega-projects from the past were not very effective in reality. Many remain merely as memorials, despite costing billions of takas. We must ensure that such mistakes are not repeated in the future.”

Referring to the upcoming months as extremely important, he said the main responsibility is to further coordinate and strengthen the current economic framework and hand it over to the elected government. This will allow the next government to advance development more efficiently.

Dr. Salehuddin emphasized that, alongside economic growth, education, health, and social safety nets must receive equal attention. “People now expect more than just food security. To build a happy and prosperous Bangladesh, these sectors must be strengthened,” he said.

He also stressed the role of journalists: “Investigative reporting and truthful journalism help guide society in the right direction. Constructive criticism is always important for development.”

Special guests at the event included BPO-Nagad Management Board Chairman Kaiser A. Chowdhury. Speeches were also delivered by Dhaka Reporters’ Unity President Abu Saleh Akon and General Secretary Mainul Hasan Sohel.
