PNN News Desk | Dhaka:
Dhaka University authorities have suspended Ali Hossain, a student of the Department of Sociology, for six months. The punishment was imposed after it was confirmed that he had attacked a female student using obscene language on social media and threatened her with gang rape.

On Wednesday (September 3), a notice issued by the university’s Public Relations Department stated that the decision was made based on the recommendations of the Proctorial Inquiry Committee. The notice also mentioned that while suspension is the maximum penalty under the Proctor’s authority, depending on the severity of the offense, permanent expulsion could be considered in the future.

Ali Hossain is a student of the 2020-21 academic session in the Department of Sociology and was a resident of Shaheed Sergeant Zahurul Haque Hall. The complaint against him has also been forwarded to the university’s Committee on Sexual Harassment.

It is reported that he posted threatening messages on social media targeting B. M. Fahmida Alam, a candidate in the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) election, which drew widespread criticism and caught the attention of the university administration.
