Drone Attacks on Markets and Military Bases in Dilling, Sudan

The attack occurred a day after the government-aligned Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) claimed to have broken RSF’s nearly two-year-long blockade, regaining control over crucial communication and supply lines.

Dilling, located strategically between Kadugli (South Kordofan) and El-Obeid (North Kordofan), has long been under RSF siege. Since April 2023, RSF and the army have been engaged in ongoing civil conflict, resulting in thousands of deaths and displacing millions.

After the blockade was eased, continuous drone attacks have targeted infrastructure and services, spreading fear among civilians. Military sources say the new blockade aims to control the city. The army maintains control, countering RSF attacks in nearby Habilla.

Humanitarian organizations, including Sudan Doctors Network, have urgently called for humanitarian corridors, as healthcare services have collapsed and medical supplies, including saline and essential medications, are critically low.

Since March, following forced displacements from Khartoum, RSF has intensified attacks in Kordofan and Darfur regions. ICC has launched investigations into alleged war crimes by both sides.

Food insecurity is severe, although formal famine declaration is pending. UN assessments confirm famine conditions in Kadugli, with a two-year blockade ongoing. Overall, approximately 14 million people in Sudan have been displaced due to the conflict, with 800,000 seeking refuge in neighboring Chad.
