A drone attack targeted the living quarters of US troops near Iraq's Erbil airport on Thursday (July 3) night. However, the drone was shot down before it could hit its intended target, security sources confirmed.
Kurdish security forces reported that an explosives-laden drone was shot down near Erbil International Airport at 9:58 PM. There were no casualties or damage reported in the incident. It's worth noting that this area in Iraq's autonomous Kurdistan region hosts troops from the US-led anti-jihadist coalition.
In previous years, Erbil airport, including the military base of the international anti-jihadist coalition, has been subjected to repeated rocket and drone attacks. Recently, fresh attacks on US bases in Iraq have resumed amidst the conflict between Iran, Israel, and the United States. This latest drone attack is believed to be a continuation of that trend.
