PNN News Desk, Dhaka:
Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, newly elected MP from Dhaka-15 and opposition leader in Parliament, took an unusual initiative the day after taking his oath. On Wednesday, after Fajr prayers, he began a cleanliness campaign in front of Baitur Nur Mosque in Monipur, Dhaka.

He personally swept the streets and cleaned debris, joined by local residents and party activists. The initiative sparked curiosity and discussion in the area.

Speaking to journalists, he said that as an MP and member of the BNP Reform Council, he wants to build society through positive change. In his words, not only roads and drains, but also impurities in people’s minds must be removed. A clean environment has a positive impact on people’s mindset, he added.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman stated that he had promised before the elections that his first program would be a cleanliness drive, and he has fulfilled that commitment. He mentioned that party units are instructed to participate in at least half an hour of cleaning work after Fajr prayers daily.

He also said that regardless of government allocation, he aims to develop the area as a model. He congratulated rival candidates and expressed determination to transform Monipur-Kafrul into a better area with everyone’s cooperation.

Political observers believe that such symbolic initiatives immediately after taking office can help raise public awareness.
