Aritra Hasan, a student of Chittagong University (CU), remains missing 48 hours after being swept away by the sea at Himchari beach in Cox’s Bazar. The incident occurred on Tuesday, July 8, and despite the passage of two days, his family has yet to receive any trace of him.
Tourist Police, Fire Service, and Coast Guard have been conducting a joint rescue operation, but Aritra's family, friends, and classmates continue to wait in tears, hoping for his safe return.
On the day of the incident, three first-year students from the Department of Development Studies at Chittagong University—K M Sadman Rahman Sabab, Asif Ahmed, and Aritra Hasan—had gone to bathe in the sea near the Himchari Museum. All three were swept away by strong waves.
On the same day, the body of K M Sadman Rahman Sabab, a resident of Mirpur, Dhaka, was recovered. The following morning, on Wednesday, July 9, the lifeless body of Asif Ahmed, originally from Bogura, washed ashore at the Samitipara coast of Cox’s Bazar town. However, Aritra Hasan, also from Bogura, is still missing.
Inspector Md. Abdul Mukit of Cox’s Bazar Tourist Police told The Daily Campus, “Since the moment the three CU students went missing, we’ve been doing our utmost to find them. Although the bodies of two have been recovered, unfortunately, Aritra Hasan has not yet been located. Our rescue operation is ongoing, and we are continuously monitoring the area.”
Asif Ahmed's body was confirmed to have been recovered from the Samitipara beach in Cox’s Bazar on July 9.
