A serious crisis has emerged in Bangladesh cricket following a comment by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director M. Nazmul Islam. Terming his remarks disrespectful and irresponsible, the Bangladesh Cricketers’ Welfare Association (COAB) has demanded his resignation. As no announcement came within the stipulated time, cricketers have decided to move toward stricter programs.

Meanwhile, even after the scheduled start time of the first match of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) passed, no team took the field, creating uncertainty about the future of the tournament. Amid the crisis, players from the six BPL teams have started gathering at a hotel in the capital and announced a boycott of all cricket activities until their demands are met.

COAB sources said that an emergency press conference has been scheduled for today at noon, where further programs may be announced.

The crisis began following a comment by BCB director M. Nazmul Islam. Responding to a question about compensation if players fail to participate in the World Cup, he said that the board would not suffer any loss if players do not play; rather, the players themselves would be the ones to suffer. He further said that players receive match fees and bonuses only when they take the field—that is the reality.

Players reacted angrily to these remarks, saying that a board director cannot use such language. COAB President Mohammad Mithun said the comments had hurt the dignity of cricketers. He said it had already been announced that if Nazmul did not resign within the given time, players would not participate in BPL matches.

As the deadline passed without any resolution, players implemented their previously announced decision not to take the field. As a result, a major tournament like the BPL is now facing stagnation.

The situation remains tense, and the standoff between the board and the players continues. No effective initiative has yet been seen from the BCB to resolve the deadlock. Cricket fans across the country are now waiting to see whether even tougher programs will be announced at the COAB press conference.
