At Dhaka University, an argument broke out between Chhatra Dal activists and general students over loud music. The incident occurred on Tuesday, 17 February, at 10 p.m. at the university’s poet Jasimuddin Hall grounds.

University sources reported that following the 13th National Parliament elections and BNP’s victory celebration, some hall Chhatra Dal members organized a “DJ night” in the evening. The event was led by Misbah Uddin, joint convener of the proposed Shahid Osman Hadi Hall Chhatra Dal, along with a few organizers.

Students complained that high-powered sound systems were used from 6 p.m. Despite initial objections and some reduction in volume, loud music resumed around 10 p.m., prompting protests from nearby students of Muktijoddha Ziaur Rahman Hall, Bijoy Ekattor Hall, and other halls.

The situation escalated as some students went directly to the grounds to stop the music, leading to heated exchanges with the organizers. Later, the situation came under control.

Several students claimed that the loud music disrupted their studies. One student noted that his semester final exam was scheduled the next day, but the noise affected both study and rest.

Meanwhile, one organizer claimed that permission had been obtained from the proctor’s office to play music until 10 p.m. However, the Jasimuddin Hall authorities stated that they had no record of such permission. A hall administration official said that permission for loud music is generally not granted considering the residential environment.

The incident has prompted renewed discussions about balancing political activities with the rights of residential students. Authorities suggest that explicit permissions and clearly defined time limits are essential for such events in the future.
