Police have arrested Uzjal Hossain, also known as Kajol, a close friend of Mahabur Rahman, in connection with Rahman’s murder in Bagmara, Rajshahi. During preliminary questioning, Kajol admitted to killing Mahabur over a dispute regarding interest payments, police said.
Kajol was arrested Monday night by the Hatgangopara Investigation Center police from Dhaker Mor area. He is a resident of Pania village, Nardash Union, and son of Abul Kashem. He also served as Executive Director of a private NGO, ‘Ashara Comprehensive Village Development Cooperative Society’.
Police stated that Kajol confessed his involvement in the murder and revealed that his maternal uncle, Moazzem Hossain, and several others might also be involved. The investigation is ongoing, police said.
Mahabur Rahman went missing on Thursday night at around 8 PM from an office in Dhaker Mor area. At that time, the cooperative’s president Saddam Hossain was present. His body was found the next day, Friday, near a three-way intersection in Rampur village on Hat Baigacha–Bhabaniganj road.
Mahabur’s elder brother Zaker Ali filed a murder case at Bagmara Police Station against 4–5 unidentified persons. Initially, the cooperative’s president Saddam Hossain and his associate Laluk, a fish farmer from Madhanagar, were detained for questioning but released after interrogation.
